different Types of Cement

Types of Cement
For engineering purposes, there are many types of cement but in general, ‘Ordinary Portland Cement’
(OPC) which is available in three grades should be used for house construction
33 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement:
This ordinary 'Portland' cement is used maximum in the country. It is more suitable cement for masonry and general concrete works where the members are not taken to very high stresses. It is not suitable where ‘Sulphate’ is in the soil or in the ground water.
43 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement:
43 grades of cement are used where high early strength in 1 to 28 days range is required. These days
the ‘Structural Engineers’ propose these cements mainly for RCC works where a member takes high tensile stress.
53 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement:
53 grades of cement are used where high early strength in 1 to 28 days range is required. These days ‘Structural Engineers’ propose these cements mainly for RCC works, where a member takes high tensile stress.
Caution in the use of 53 grade cement in construction:
The strength of 53 grade cement does not increase much after 28th day because of early gain while 33 grade cement continues to gain strength after 28th day. In addition, due to faster hydration process, the concrete releases heat of hydration at much faster rate initially and release of heat is the highest in case of 53 grades. The heat of hydration being higher, the chances of micro-cracking of concrete is much greater. Thus during initial setting period of concrete, the higher heat of hydration can lead to the damage of micro-cracking within the concrete which may not be visible at surface.

This cracking is different from shrinkage or cracks which occur due to faster dryness of concrete in windy conditions. The situation can be worse when we tend to increase the quantity of the cement in concrete with a belief that such increments are better for both strength and durability of concrete.

Thus it is very essential to be very careful in advance that higher grade cement specially GRADE 53
SHOULD be used only where such use is warranted for making the concrete of higher strength and also where good quality assurance measures are in place by which proper precautions are taken to relieve the higher heat of hydration through chilling of aggregates or by proper curing of concrete.

How to Calculate Estimation of Wall Plaster.

Assume: Wall = 1m Length, 1m height Mortar Ratio = 1:6 Plaster Thickness = 12 mm =0.012 m Constants: Density of Cement = 1440 kg/m3 1 cum = 35.3147 cuft. So: Volume of Mortar = 1 x  1 x 0.012 = 0.012 cum. (Wet Volume) Dry Volume of Mortar = 0.012 x 1.30 = 0.0156 cum.   Quantity of Cement = 1/7 x 0.0156 x 1440 = 3.21 kg = 0.064 Bags Quantity of Sand     = 6/7 x 0.0156 x 35.3147 = 0.47 cuft. The recommended  thickness  of cement  plastering  is given below. Recommended  thickness  of  plastering  for brick  walls  is 12 MM, 15 MM or 20 MM. 12 MM  thick  cement  plaster  is done where the plain surface of brick masonry is  plastered . 15 MM cement  plaster  is required on the rough side of 9” and 4.5”  wall .

Medlum Density Fibre Board (MDF)

Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF)  MDF IS made from wood and other lignocellulose material refined into fibres and reconstituted with a resin binder. Row wood material is normally a single species wood. MDF has homogeneous structure with uniform density, texture and properties throughout, no identifiable grain can be seen at edge, end or face. There are no internal voids or pits and there is no variation in the surface hardness. Unlike plywood MDF doesn't delaminate. It has much higher strength than particle board. Since edges are totally smooth and uniform, costly tipping or beading with strips of wood required for plywood and particle board is not essential. It can be carved, grooved or embossed just like any timber. The surface of MDF is totally smooth and accepts all kinds of finishes - paints, varnishes and laminates. One such type of famous board in the market is 'Duratuff" . It comes in both interior and exterior grade. Duratuff prelaminated boards are also avail...

How to Calculate Cost and Quantity of 1000 Sq.ft Concrete Slab?

Cost and Quantity of 1000 Sq.ft Concrete Slab 1000 Sq.ft = 92.93 Sq.mt. Thickness of Slab = 0.150 Sq.mt. Volume of Slab = 92.93 X 0.150 = 13.939 cu.mt. Beam Volume = 20% o f concrete Vol.                         =13.939 X 20/100 = 2.7878 cu.mt. Total Slab Volume = 13.939 + 2.7878 = 16.768 = 17 cu.mt. We know :- M20 Grade of Concrete (1 : 1.5 : 3)  Concrete  Quantity  of 1 cu.mt. Cement = 8 bags   Sand = 15 cu.ft  aggregate = 30 cu.ft  1 cu.mt Concrete Cost =  4,550 Rs. So :- M20 Grade of Concrete (1 : 1.5 : 3)  Concrete  Quantity  of 1000 cu.mt. Cement = 17 X 8 = 136 bags  Sand = 17 X 15 = 255 cu.ft  aggregate = 30 X 17 = 510 cu.ft 1000 cu.mt Concrete Cost =  77,350 Rs. Steel Quantity = 1% of concrete Vol.                          =17 X 1/100 =...
